Boucheries (Butchers)

There's a good one in Buxy, or else you can go to one of the markets (I love the pork sausages from the woman in the little white truck at St-Gengoux-le-National).

Pâtisseries

There are several in Beaune that I like.  There is a small but excellent one in Chalon-sur-Saone called Amaryllis.  But the best thing is just to experiment.

Boulangeries

The one in Joncy and the one on the main hill in Buxy are good.  There is a bread vender at the market in Givry on Thursdays that's also got very good baguettes.

Groceries

There is a mini grocery store in Le Martrat, just 2km away (walking is 45 minutes each way, but in the car it's about three minutes each way, and be careful because she closes for three hours for lunch).  There are two big ones in Buxy (mine is called Atac), a giant Carrefour at Chalon-sur-Saône, an Intermarché at Montceau-les-Mines...there are a million others nearby.

Cheese (Fromage)

There are little signs all over the place for people selling goat cheese from their farms.  Some do more formal visits (and you can visit the goats!).  Chenoves and Cormatin are good examples.  There is also a cheese making place called Gaugry, about 1 hr 15 minutes to the north, where you can tour and taste.

Marchés

Most markets operate 8am-1pm.  Bring a basket or bag, and cash.  You can get everything from meats and fishes and breads, to vegetables and eggs and fruits, to more exotic fare, depending on the size of the market and the time of year.
